Halloween decorations: 3 DIY ideas

The projects that we propose have in common the use of simple elements and even organic materials; which is why, they will be aesthetically very different from classic low quality plastic accessories.

The positive side of using natural elements in combination with common objects is the much more realistic and downright scary result.

Keep in mind that, starting from the materials used for the Halloween decorations that we will propose shortly, you can make many other ornaments. You will just have to unleash your creativity .

1. Witch broom

Materials

  • Thin rope
  • Fake spider web
  • Several dry twigs
  • 1 long wooden stick (for the handle)
  • Optional: red fairy lights, spikes, dried herbs

Method

It is important to get natural dry twigs so that the result is as truthful as possible. The broom must look old and used. Cut a long piece of string and tie the dry branches to the stick. They don’t have to be perfectly in order. Next, take the fake spider web and coat some parts of the handle. You can also twist some pieces between the twigs together with the red lights, to give it a more bewitched touch. Finally, between the twigs, you can also insert some spikes and dried herbs to give the broom a slightly more wild look.

2. Deadly Potions

Materials

  • 1 brush
  • 1 sheet of paper
  • Glue
  • Several black candles
  • Freshly brewed coffee
  • Black or red marker
  • 3-4 bottles empty wine
  • Optional: black spray paint

Method

Place the paper on the table. Then moisten the brush in the coffee and paint the whole sheet. Then, once dry, check if it has acquired a parchment-like appearance or if you need to apply more brushstrokes of coffee.

Then, with the marker, write the names of the potions. The more macabre they are, the better. Cut out the names and set aside. If the wine bottles are already dark in color, you won’t need to apply paint. However, if they are green or some other color, we recommend painting them. Attach the labels to the bottles with a little glue. Now insert a candle on the neck of each bottle and light the wick. Let the wax melt and run down the bottle. Finally, once the candle is consumed, if you want a more pronounced effect, you can repeat the procedure until you reach the desired effect.

ghost garland

3. Halloween decorations: ghost garlands of lights

Materials

  • White ping pong balls
  • 1 black indelible marker
  • 1/2 meter of white gauze or organza
  • White thread or transparent nylon

Method

First of all, take a ball and, with the marker, draw the empty eye sockets and the mouth of the ghosts. Repeat the procedure for all the other balls. You can also vary the expressions of the ghosts or make them all the same. Then, cut a piece of gauze or organza with the following dimensions: 21 x 29.7 centimeters , then, place the ping pong ball in the center and wrap it.

Next, tie the rest of the fabric with some nylon, white thread, or thin string. Finally, once the ghosts are ready, hang them from the ceiling like a garland (horizontally or vertically) or place them in the most unexpected places.
